Designing for Young Minds
Designing for a primary school environment requires a careful balance between imagination and practicality. The spaces needed to feel welcoming and inspiring, while remaining durable, adaptable and easy to maintain for everyday use.
Our approach centred on wellbeing, flexibility and longevity. A calming yet engaging colour palette was introduced to encourage focus without overstimulation. Layered textures and tactile materials add warmth and comfort, while robust finishes ensure the spaces can withstand the rhythm and energy of a busy school day.

A Collective Contribution
Natural elements were thoughtfully incorporated to foster a sense of calm and connection. Biophilic touches — from statement planting to smaller green accents — bring life and softness into the interiors, supporting both creativity and concentration. Furniture selections were made with adaptability in mind, allowing staff to reconfigure spaces for reading, collaborative learning or quiet concentration.
Every decision — from surface finishes to soft furnishings — was guided by the intention to create environments that feel positive, inclusive and supportive for young minds.
This transformation was delivered as a community-focused initiative — a collaborative effort rooted in shared purpose and social responsibility. Alongside our studio’s creative direction and investment, several valued suppliers, partners and supporters generously contributed products, craftsmanship and resources to help bring the project to life.

We are grateful to Cult Furniture for the armchair and Fine Art for the rug, both of which contribute to the character of the interior environment.
Special thanks also go to Plant Art for providing plants and trees, and to I Want Plants for the planting elements that introduce natural texture and vitality to the space.
Our thanks extend to Jack the Painter, With Print, and SitaBit for their work in decoration, graphics, and craft.
Finally, we acknowledge the support of Friends of West Green, and offer particular gratitude to Shathi Haque, whose generous donation of key items made a significant impact on the project.
Their partnership and generosity were instrumental in making this project possible. The collective commitment behind this initiative demonstrates how collaboration between designers, suppliers and community members can create meaningful, lasting impact within local educational environments.
Design with Purpose
Educational spaces influence daily experiences in profound ways. The environments in which children learn help shape confidence, creativity and a sense of belonging. Supporting a local London primary school through shared expertise, resources and community collaboration is something we are incredibly proud of.
Projects like this reaffirm our belief that design is not simply about how a space looks — it is about how it functions, how it makes people feel, and how it can strengthen the communities it serves for years to come.
