Dar Jasmine, a boutique hotel and retreat located in Chefchaouen, Morocco, appointed KAI Interiors to conceptualise and deliver an authentic and contemporary interior design designed to inspire human connection.
The Challenge
The Challenge
Inspired by a love story, our challenge was to create a boutique hotel and retreat located high in the Rif Mountains. Throughout this project there were many difficult elements to manage, from the culturally slower pace of work in Morocco, to respecting religious holidays EID and Ramadan, to transporting all materials up the mountain by manpower or donkey. We also spent a great deal of time sourcing suppliers because each and every element of the interior design was made bespoke.
Our Solution
Dar Jasmine took inspiration from a tale about a local Moroccan girl who rescued a British pilot who had crash landed in the nearby mountains. As she nursed him back to health in her home, surrounded by Jasmine flowers, they fell in love. Afterwards, while travelling the world, the pilot planted Jasmine flowers to remind him of their love. Each room at Dar Jasmine is inspired by a country he visited.
This story of rescue, healing and love, along with the calm spiritual energy of the town of Chefchaouen where the hotel is located, provided the inspiration behind the design of this boutique hotel.
Using traditional Moroccan techniques and working with the best talented local craftspeople, we infused an authentic approach with a contemporary twist. Each and every element was handcrafted using local techniques and modern European ones. The result is Dar Jasmine is one of the most unique hotel experiences in Morocco. The extraordinary attention to detail throughout further enhances the breathtaking views.
